List of Months in Spanish

We all know how time is important to us. The same way a year and its months are  important too, so you should know about all the months which an year contains. It will help you to mention your date of birth, or talking to someone regarding months or seasons occurring in an year. Even when you talk about important dates, you definitely remember the date with the month in which it occurred, let it be birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, or anything else, months play a very important role. As you have learned a lot about the Spanish vocabulary till now, I guess now you should proceed with the names of the months, so that you will be able to tell your special dates in Spanish while talking to your friends, family, colleagues, or anyone who knows Spanish.

First learn all the names, memorise it, write it down on a chart paper in big letters and paste it on your bedroom walls or wash room or kitchen. Keep on revising until you memorise all the month names. Once you are done with it, try pronouncing it in the correct way because even if you learn something but you don’t know how to talk or pronounce then, trust me, half of your effort is waste. So memorize it, pronounce it correctly, and then finally try to write it. By writing,I mean write with correct letters.

For memorising, you already know all the tactics. Whenever you are speaking with your family and friends, try to use the words you have learnt. Does not matter if anybody understands or not, you have to learn it, so you need to practise. Here I am going to list all the months names with an audio.

Lista de meses :

January : enero

February : febrero

March : marzo, la marcha

April : abril

May : mayo, poder

June : junio

July : julio

August : agosto

September : septiembre

October : octubre

November : noviembre

December : diciembre

It’s pretty easy to remember these words. It will hardly take like 15 minutes to memorize but it needs practise to remember it for longer time. Try to frame sentence with these, first what you can do is, frame a sentence in your language and keep the month name in Spanish but rest of the words you keep in your language. Then, one by one, try to translate all the words in your sentence. This way you will be able to figure out the other words and the grammar as well.  To form a sentence, you should be aware of at least how to represent a word when you want to convey past, present , and future. For example :

I was born in January : i nacio en enero

Here, the meaning of born in Spanish is “nacido” , but you can not put it the same way in the sentence. As we are framing a sentence and talking about past, born word will get changed a little bit and here it is ” nacio” which means “was born”.

February is a month of Love : Febrero es un mes del amor

Here, it looks like a statement, so you don’t need to worry about past, present ,and future. You can simply frame your sentence and put the word as it is.

The important thing what you need to remember while talking about months is some basic rules of grammar. When you are talking about month, you need to keep in mind which month is considered to be masculine and which are considered to be feminine. In English, I am not sure but I guess it is general, if I say, “Robert is coming” or if I say “Jennifer” is coming, both the sentences are same but the name is different. One has a male name in it and the other has female but we can represent both the sentences in same way, there is no specific grammar rule here. But in Spanish, you will be confused a little when you try to translate a sentence and then another but there comes a difference. For example, if I say “January is coming” it means “Enero es viniendo” and if I say “May is coming”, it is “Mayo esta llegendo”. Now the confusion you’ll have is, why we have used “es” in the first sentence and why “esta” with the other one.  To understand this, you need to know a little grammar.

There is a lot of confusion among es, esta, and Está. You may face a lot of trouble while using any of these words when you try to frame a sentence.  But do not worry about it, I am giving you some very basic tips on these words, just keep in mind these tricks and I am sure that you will never face a problem while using these words.

Es (it is) :  Es una mesa (It is a table)

Esta (this) : esta mesa (this table)

Está (when you want to specify more like location) : La mesa está en mi oficina (the table is in my office)

Esta means this, but when in a sentence we are referring to a masculine form, it becomes este. For example :

This man is crazy : este hombre está loco

This woman is crazy : esta mujer está loca

In this example, you can see we have used este when referring to a masculine form but esta is used when referring to a feminine form. So, remember it, and use accordingly.

The other scenario is, when you are framing a sentence where you want to convey something temporary, then you can use esta otherwise use es. For Example , if someone is suffering from fever or anything which is not going to last long i;e temporary, use need to use esta with it. But if you want to say that “he/she is sick”, it seems to be more permanent and you need to use “es” with it.

We use está even for “is”, but the difference is “es” is used only with adjectives and está is used with verbs.

Sentences with Adjectives :

Her House is nice : Su casa es bonita

He is angry : esta enojado

I am happy to meet you : Estoy feliz de conocerte

These were some of the examples where adjectives are being used. You should be totally aware of all the grammar rules, then only you will be able to create or frame a good sentence. There is no need to know all the words or grammar rules at a time but whatever you read today, you should revise tomorrow. This way you will have an expertise on Spanish grammar and sentence framing. Keep on learning…!!!
